The absence of Mr. Bryan at such a time
necessarily caused much extra work to fall upon the other members
of the staff who had to work a large amount of overtime in order
to overtake it. The following is a statement of the overtime work-

In view of the exceptional conditions prevail-
-ing and the efficient manner in which the work has been conducted
under somewhat trying conditions, I consider that these officers
are entitled to the extra remuneration which I have recommended. I
may add that Mr. Bryan's lapsing pay amounted to $825, which, at
3/- to the dollar, is equal to £123 15.0.
